Mission & Policy
Objective
Watoto Yatima Foundation has been working since 2003 to improve the living conditions of orphaned children. We started in Mbeya, Tanzania, and today we also run support projects in Kenya, Sierra Leone and Ghana. We focus on children who have lost their parents due to AIDS-related causes, or who live in extreme poverty without a stable home situation. Through long-term, structural support we offer them a chance at a dignified life and a better future. We focus in particular on children living in poverty after the death of parents due to AIDS, children who have been abandoned by their parents (it happens!), and children in extreme poverty who otherwise have no realistic chance of receiving education.
- Covering school fees, books and school uniforms for children throughout their full education period (on average 4–6 years);
- Financing necessary medical care and guidance;
- Creating a stable foundation for personal development, aimed at independence and contributing to society;
- Keeping overhead costs to a minimum, so that almost all donations go directly to the children.
Policy plan
This is an updated line: The foundation’s policy focuses on long-term support for children in vulnerable situations. We do this by:
- Working with local partners and volunteers in Tanzania for implementation, monitoring and guidance;
- Strict control of spending and transparent financial reporting;
- Annual evaluation of objectives, results and project efficiency;
- Continuous communication with donors and stakeholders about progress and impact.
Remuneration policy
The board members of the foundation do not receive any compensation for their work. All tasks are performed on a voluntary basis. Any expenses are reimbursed only if agreed in advance and demonstrably necessary for carrying out the work.
